What a deep dive! I didn't know of Anges, Elizabeth... or Sathan, for that matter. That illustration of Sathan, by the way, is absolutely incredible. : ) The other place these old attitudes seem to bleed through is in the "cats vs birds," debate. Feral cats can absolutely be a problem, but I've noticed the bird people engaging in ad hominem attacks/ridiculing of women who care for "community cats," using that old crazy cat lady trope. Fascinating piece!
